What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
SEO is a discipline focused on improving search engine rankings in organic or non-paid search engine results. There are many forms of SEO, from the words on your page to the way other sites link to you on the web. SEO is usually a matter of making sure your site is structured in a way that all search engines understand.
Search engines have two major functions: crawling and building an index, this, in turn, provides the end users with a list of the websites ranked in order the search engines have determined are the most relevant.
The top search engines, such as Google, Bing and Yahoo! use web crawlers or bots to find pages for their algorithmic search results.
Local SEO enables you to find local customers in your chosen business area. For example, if you are a plumber who operates in London, you don't necessarily want people contacting you for an emergency plumbing job if they are in Glasgow. Local SEO targets your local customers. So you may have a florist shop in Cambridge and want to be listed in Google as being in Cambridge. When potential customers type “florist in Cambridge” into the search engine, you want your Florist shop to appear!
